Start 2025 with Purposeful Healthy Choices

As we welcome the new year, the Georgia Department of Public Health’s South Health District encourages everyone to prioritize their health by making purposeful healthy choices in 2025. Whether you’re looking to quit smoking, stay up to date on vaccinations, or adopt healthier habits, your local health department is here to help.

Quit Smoking for Good
There’s no better time to quit smoking than now. Smoking harms your body and increases your risk of serious health issues, including heart disease, cancer, and stroke. Take the first step toward a smoke-free life by reaching out to the Georgia Tobacco Quitline at 877-270-STOP (877-270-7867). The Quitline offers free, confidential support and resources to help you succeed.

Get Vaccinated
Protect yourself and your loved ones by staying up to date on your recommended vaccines. All health departments within South Health District offer vaccinations for COVID-19, flu, and many other preventable diseases. Contact your local health department today to schedule an appointment and ensure you’re covered for the year ahead.

Prioritize Preventive Screenings
Early detection saves lives. Make 2025 the year you stay on top of your health by scheduling your annual check-ups and screenings. Women are encouraged to visit www.southhealthdistrict.com/BCCP to learn more about the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) and determine if they qualify for free or low-cost mammograms and cervical cancer screenings.

“The new year is an opportunity to take charge of your health and well-being,” said Mark J. Eanes MD, District Health Director. “By making small but purposeful changes, you can set yourself up for a healthier and happier 2025.”

Adopt a Healthier Lifestyle
A healthy lifestyle is more than a resolution; it’s a commitment to yourself. Small changes can lead to big improvements in your overall well-being. Start by:

  • Eating healthier: Incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals while cutting back on sugary and processed foods.
  • Moving more: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week.
  • Focusing on mental health: Practice self-care, seek support when needed, and take steps to manage stress.
