VALDOSTA – The Georgia Department of Public Health’s South Health District is preparing for the arrival of the updated 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccine stock may be limited, so please call your local health department to confirm availability and to schedule your appointment.
Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approval of last month’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations, COVID-19 vaccinations are being distributed throughout Georgia as supplies are received.
“While we do not yet have the updated COVID-19 vaccine in stock, we expect clinics to begin receiving doses soon,” said District Health Director Mark J. Eanes, MD. “We encourage residents to call their local health department ahead of time to make sure they have the vaccine in stock and to schedule their appointment.”
In addition to calling your local health department for vaccine availability, you can also check the South Health District website and social media accounts for updates.
Once available, COVID-19 vaccines will be offered through both private stock as well as the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.
No prescription is required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Health department staff will provide counseling based on an individual’s age, health conditions, and other factors, following updated CDC guidance on informed consent.
Most major insurance plans, as well as federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, will cover the cost of vaccination. Individuals without health insurance can contact their local health department for assistance in receiving the vaccine.
