Stay Ahead of the Flu: Get Vaccinated Today

Flu Shots Now Available

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s South Health District (SHD) is encouraging everyone to make their health a priority this flu season by getting a flu shot. Flu vaccines are now available at health departments throughout all SHD counties.

In addition to traditional flu shots, South Health District is offering high-dose flu vaccines for individuals 65 and older. For those who are self-pay, pricing is $46.93 for the traditional flu vaccine and $121.92 for the high-dose vaccine. Some clinics also offer state supplied vaccines, which are available for $21. To see which options are available to you, please call your local health department directly.

Insurance will be billed for those with accepted providers, and costs may vary depending on coverage. For details on accepted insurance providers and coverage, please contact your local health department.

High-dose flu vaccine supplies may be limited, so calling ahead to check availability is recommended.

Flu season in the U.S. typically begins in the fall and peaks between December and February. Early vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and those around you before flu activity reaches its peak.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine each year. Vaccination is especially important for people at higher risk of complications, including young children, pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and individuals with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.

“Getting your flu vaccine is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself, your family, and your community this season,” said Dr. Mark J. Eanes, MD, MBA, District Health Director. “We encourage everyone in the South Health District to take this important and purposeful step toward staying healthy.”

Most insurance plans are accepted, including Aetna, Anthem BCBS, Cigna, Coventry, United Healthcare, Medicaid (PeachState, AmeriGroup, CareSource, PeachCare), and Medicare. Bring your insurance card to your appointment. Self-pay options are also available.
