Cook Health Department to Host Drive-Thru Flu Clinic

ADEL – Flu season is just around the corner, and the Cook County Health Department is making it easier than ever to protect yourself without leaving your car. A drive-thru flu clinic will be held on Friday, October 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Cook County Health Department, located at 204 N. Parris Avenue in Adel.

Free sausage biscuit breakfasts will be offered to those receiving their flu shot during the event, while supplies last.

The drive-thru clinic is open to anyone 18 years and older and provides a fast, convenient way to get vaccinated. Both regular flu shots (for all ages) and high-dose vaccines (for adults 65 and older) will be available.

“We want to offer a simple and convenient way to help our residents stay healthy this flu season,” said Rebecca Allgood, RN, Cook County Nurse Manager. “By offering a drive-thru option, we’re removing barriers and making it easy for people to take an important step in protecting themselves and their families. The flu can be serious, but getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to prevent it and reduce its spread in our community.”

If you have insurance coverage, please bring your insurance card so that our staff can process your insurance. Insurance will be billed for those with accepted providers, and costs may vary depending on coverage. For details on accepted insurance and pricing, call the health department directly. Self-pay options are also available: $46.93 for the regular flu vaccine and $121.92 for the high-dose vaccine.

Flu season in the U.S. typically begins in the fall and peaks between December and February. Health experts recommend getting vaccinated early to protect yourself and those around you before flu activity is at its highest.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older, especially those at higher risk of complications, including young children, pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with chronic health conditions.

So roll down your window, roll up your sleeve, and stay healthy all season long.
